So Far, So...

An update of updates...

Scholarship: Now that my scholarship application has been submitted to the national office, I can finally talk about it. The side-project which became the "4am I'm still writing my proposal" project was, in fact, a Fulbright scholarship. My professor in Finance, who has been instrumental in giving me almost daily encouragement to pursue my professional goals (and get through yet another LONG day), was a Fulbright scholar herself. So, I thought, if she could bag a job on Wall Street and somehow get a Fulbright at the same time, so could I. Moreover, all the work and effort I have put into my maintaining my grades, I felt, would be somehow wasted if I did not apply it to something. So, I applied for a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a study on Socially Responsible Investing and the Petroleum Fund in Norway. It was tough--I was eaten alive by the campus committee because one of the professors on the committee basically felt that all I wanted to do was "travel to Norway, take class, and eat Norwegian food."My mouth almost dropped. In effect, he challenged me to "bring it on.." and, you know what, I did. Not only did I rewrite a two page research proposal detailing every part of my reserach proposal (down to the number of members and the number of documents I needed for my research), but with help from my potential Fulbright advisor abroad, I was able to contact a committe person who actually wrote the SRI guidelines for the fund in question.

I will find out early next year (January) if my proposal has been elevated to the country (Norway) level. But, for the time being, I'm interested in looking for...

A Job: Which is why I am awake at this time. I've been doing the interview rounds. I think I've been in more than ten or so interviews for various types of finance positions at several places. Right now, I'm on my way to Charlotte, NC (all expense paid, baby!) to do my second round, "Super Saturday" investment banking interview with Wachovia Securities. More than anything else, the whole job hunt has been eating up time, so much so that I may have to endure having to late-drop/withdraw from a class at the last minute (crossing fingers)...

And also... Crossing Over into Playwork: While I am definitely not in a play, we are now in the last stage of my beginning acting class, wherein I will be playing two parts, in addition to preparing for my own, two-minute monologue. From my *dramatic* open scene in which I basically yelled and stood down my scene partner (and 6' something football/basketball player) in a short but tense scene, I am playing both an older businessman in one scene and the high school son of a cheating mother in another. Next thing I know I will be...

in Sunny California for Christmas break. Yes, my family is supposedly making the trek over to the West Coast this Christmas season. I will probably be in LA for the last two weeks of Christmas and the first week of January.

I know I've been saying this for a long time, but my website is basically 99% complete. I just need to dredge up email addresses so I can send the updated information, especially the passwords on the site.

Email and keep me updated! :)
